Announcements from the Great Start Collaborative

 A New Agency will Provide Trainings for Genesee County Aide and Relative Child Care Providers:

  • Genesee County will be served by a new training agency for the Tier I Orientation trainings required for Aide and Relative child care providers.  The Child Care Network based in Ann Arbor will be the new organization providing the trainings.
  • Aide and relative child care providers caring for children whose parents receive stipends from the Department of Human Services (DHS) recently received a letter from DHS describing new training requirements to remain eligible to receive payment from the DHS stipends. The training for current aide and relative child care providers must be completed by September 17, 2010.

Join us for a day of learning why the November 2010 election is so important for the future of Michigan's economy mixed with exciting entertainment for the whole family!  Bring your children, bring your friends!  The Genesee County Great Start Collaborative Mission

To assure a coordinated system of community resources and support to help all Genesee County families provide a great start for their children from pre-birth to age five.

Governance

The Genesee County Great Start Collaborative is a coalition of community agencies, business partners, faith partners, schools, health care providers, parents and individuals working together to improve programs and services for families with children from birth to age five.  The collaborative pledges to be family guided, community based, nonpartisan, use evidence based strategies with measurable results and to be accountable to the community.  The Genesee County Great Start Collaborative is a grantee of the Early Childhood Investment Corporation with Genesee Intermediate School District as the fiduciary.  Additional funding to support the collaborative is provided by the Community Foundation of Greater Flint and the United Way of Genesee County.  The staff and offices are located in the Health, Safety and Nutrition Services Department of Genesee Intermediate School District, located at G-2284 South Ballenger Highway, Flint, Michigan  48503.

Meeting Information

Anyone is invited to participate in our Comprehensive Great Start Collaborative meetings, held quarterly (see schedule below for dates and times).  The Steering Committee meetings are by invitation only and meet monthly.  Parent Coalition meetings are open to parents of children birth to twelve and also meet on a monthly basis.

The Work of The Great Start Collaborative

The Great Start Collaborative has identified priority areas that the workgroups are developing:

  • Improved quality and access to high quality early care and education for children birth - five in Genesee County.
  • A treatment court model for infants and parents facing termination of parental rights.
  • A medical home for children to improve access to well baby care, preventable illness, immunizations, developmental screenings, and treatment for minor illness.
  • Improved access by parents, grandparents and others caring for children to parent education programs and resources.
  • Improved understanding of the effect of mental health and self regulation of parents and children on the development and success of children.
